Dr. William A. Ball, Jr., of Cane River Surgery Center performed the first robotic surgery in Natchitoches, using the da Vinci Surgical System, on Friday, July 25, 2014.
Surgery with da Vinci does not place a robot at the controls; Dr. Ball controls every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform, nicknamed Leo. Dr. Ball was be the first surgeon in Natchitoches to use Leo's robotic technology, which offers the patient an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both traditional surgery and laparoscopy. "The three robotic arms provide better access and control, which will allow better visualization of tissue and anatomy during the surgical procedure itself," Dr. Ball said.
