Cane River Surgery Center da Vinci Robotic SurgeryWhat is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive alternative to both traditional surgery and laparoscopy. Using state of the art technology, Dr. Ball has the ability to do single site surgery, leaving you with minimal or scarless results.

It is important to know that surgery with da Vinci does not place a robot at the controls; Dr. Ball controls every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform.

The da Vinci System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. As a result, da Vinci enables Dr. Ball to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.

Why choose robotic surgery?

  • Smaller Incision
  • Decreased Blood Loss
  • Lower risk of infection
  • Shorter Hospital Stay
  • Minimal Scarring
  • Less Trauma
  • Fewer complications
  • Faster Recovery
  • Decreased need for narcotic pain medication

Is robotic surgery more expensive than traditional surgery?

Robotic surgery is covered by most medical insurances, just as they cover laparoscopic surgery. Often, it is less expensive for the patient because there is a shorter hospital stay than traditional surgery. Please check with your individual insurance provider for more information.

Dr. William A. Ball, Jr., of Cane River Surgery Center performed the first robotic surgery in Natchitoches, using the da Vinci Surgical System, on Friday, July 25, 2014.

Surgery with da Vinci does not place a robot at the controls; Dr. Ball controls every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci robotic platform, nicknamed Leo. Dr. Ball was be the first surgeon in Natchitoches to use Leo's robotic technology, which offers the patient an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both traditional surgery and laparoscopy. "The three robotic arms provide better access and control, which will allow better visualization of tissue and anatomy during the surgical procedure itself," Dr. Ball said.

"With Leo's robotic assistance, you may have a shorter hospital stay, fewer complications and less blood loss. Patients will also have a faster recovery, less need for narcotic pain medicine and smaller incisions leading to nearly scarless results."
