If you have been through a breast self-examination and/or mammogram and a cancerous tissue has been detected, your physician may order a breast biopsy. A breast biopsy is a procedure ordered when a suspicious breast growth has been detected. A sample of the growth is removed and examined under a microscope by a pathologist to identify non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant) tissue. The need for this procedure is determined by a certified physician like Dr. William A. Ball, Jr.
